South Staffordshire Netball Academies
There are three Satellite Academies; U12, U13 & U14 and one U16 County Academy.
The Satellite Academy is the first step on the England Pathway, for young netballers aged approximately 11-14 years old. County Netball Associations manage and deliver the Satellite Academies on behalf of England Netball, delivering about 15 sessions per year. Qualified and experience Level 2 Coaches should deliver the training programmes set by England Netball. The emphasis in the Satellite Academy is for young netballers to learn how to train on their own, and to understand experience and practice some of the different components required in a training programme.
County Academies provide training for athletes aged approximately 14-16 years. County Netball Associations manage and deliver the County Academies on behalf of England Netball, delivering between 15-30 sessions per year. Qualified and experience Level 2 Coaches should deliver the training programmes set by England Netball, providing athletes will the support and skill set they need to progress to the next level of the Pathway, the Regional Academy. Athletes in a County Academy should be accessing between 14-16 hours a week of training and competition, both in netball and other invasion sports. Strength and Conditioning work is also important for this level and age group of athletes, to ensure that muscles are developed properly, to prevent injury and to prepare them for a greater intensity of training as they progress their netball careers.
Athletes that show the greatest levels of potential that are committed to training and show consistent improvement will be put forward by their coaches for a Regional Screening day which could potentially then lead onto National Performance camps. At the end of the season, participants in the U14 and U16 Academies are invited to take part in a Regional Versatility Tournament which is usually held in May. This is another opportunity for athletes to be scouted for selection into the Regional Performance Pathway.
